Sexuality Happens

Some sad news…

I just found out that my only grandmother has lung cancer, and isn’t strong enough to get radiation or chemo. They’re taking the breathing tube out of her chest, and sending her to a hospice this week.

It’s also the 1 year anniversary of my uncle’s death.

Once my grandmother passes away, I’ll have 9 family members left; 4 in the US (mother, sister, grandfather and aunt) and 5 in Israel (3 cousins, aunt and uncle)…and two of my cousins are in the IDF (Israeli Defense Force).

I just feel like slowly, I’m losing my entire family.

I’m hoping to fly out and see her in New Mexico the week of March 23rd…they don’t think she’ll make it to me moving to Colorado this summer.

Sigh. Does life ever get easy? Or at least less hard?

I’ve only been reading your blog for a short time but I think I have an idea where you are coming from with your grandmother. No two loses are the same but I hope they make her comfortable and you get to say good by. I’m sure she will be glad to see you and your visit will make her feel better. Be strong.

I have recently lost a great-aunt. I had the same feeling as you, I am slowly losing my family, the people I grew up either with, or knowing.

I hope her passing is peaceful, and that you too can find some peace in it.
