Nipple Piercing Advice Needed
I’m considering getting my nipples pierced.
I have a concern; I have fabulous nipples, and can have breast orgasms, and would be really sad if they lost sensation (like I hear can happen), or had all the drama happen that happened with my hood piercing. That would suck, right?
However, I like the way they look, I like piercing things on my body (and am running out of places, since anything below my waist or on my face are out). I like the idea of increased sensitivity.
So.
If you have (or have had) nipple piercings, and would like to give me suggestions, advice, experiences, etc, I have the following questions:
*How much did it hurt getting it done? Was it like stubbing a toe, breaking a finger, a paper cut?
*How much did it hurt over the next few days? A little bit, completely distracting, crying in pain, etc?
*How long until you could safely (and not too painfully) play with them again?
*How long until they were completely healed?
*Did you gain sensation, lose sensation, or stick at the same level?
*Did you have problems with them getting infected?
*Barbells or rings?
*Anything else you think might help me out. Also, if you know a good, respected, clean piercing place in the Denver area, that would be awesome too!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve actually had both my nipples pierced twice – once when I was twenty, and a redo when I was 29 (I’d taken them out for several years in between, and then missed them.)
To your questions:
The actual piercing hurts intensely, as you might guess. It’s hard to equate the pain to something else, because the pain is exactly like getting a hollow needle shoved through your nipples, and then having metal shoved back through the raw space that’s been created. Yowch. It’s fierce, quick, and totally erotic and awesome (if you’re into that sort of thing.)
It hurts sharply (but not badly) for a few days to a week afterward. It’s like you’re constantly aware of them, but if you wear a tight sports bra to keep them from accidentally getting tweaked, it actually feels quite nice. That begins to dull after a week, and for me moving the rings in the shower to clean them was the only time the sharp pain returned.
The safety of playing with them is another matter entirely. Having gone through the healing process twice, I’d recommend taking at least a full month before you let anyone touch them directly at all, with hands or mouth. And you run the risk of slowing the healing process every time you play with them directly within the first few months. But you’ll likely be so sensitive that you’d get off if someone plays with them through a barrier (a bra, a shirt, whatever).
It took a full year before they were completely healed, probably because I couldn’t resist playing with them. (file under: I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.)
I definitely gained sensation by the piercing. There’s something hard for the nipple flesh to press against, and what’s more, there’s direct sensation from a previously inaccessible place, the center of your nipple.
I never had any big issues with infection, but because I played with them too much, it took a long time for me to get past the “weeping” stage. But even still, after a year or so the discharge was pretty much gone.
I’m a fan of rings because they’re easier to clean, and I love the sensation of a full revolution of the ring (mine are seamless, so I can go all the way around). Then there’s the neato bonus of being able to hook them to things (clamps, bondage ties, etc.), if you so desire.
I’m a big fan of NY Adorned, if you’re back in our fair city any time soon.
Hope this helps, and that you continue to have fun with your nipples either way! xo
I had my nipples done, and I’m going to be getting them done again soon (I had to take them out)
- I didn’t think they hurt that much, but then again, I like needles and hooks, so I’m not a good judge
-afterwards, mine were sore for a few days, like ‘i just got a shot…in my boobs’ sore, but it went away pretty quickly.
-I played w/mine after a month, but that was a drunken mistake – after that I waited another three, for the ‘proper’ four month healing time.
-they were mostly healed after four months, complete in perhaps 8. (I was bad, and 19, and didn’t pay much attention)
-I gained a TON of sensation with mine – before and after I had them, my breast sensation was ‘meh’. With them it was like “SHAZAAM!”
God do I want them back.
-I had no problems with infection, but I’m very OCD about keeping things like that clean, because I’m prone to infections
-I had barbells, but they were 1/2 inch wide. I gained weight, and the y were too small for my boobies, and got irritated and started to hurt, rub and such. I got horse shoes after that, and those are what I want again. (however, I’m an idiot, and didn’t want to deal with them rehealing at the time, and took ‘em out, and gave the barbels to a friend. stupid me)
-talk to your piercer before hand. If they’re worth their salt, they’ll help you decide which sort of jewelry design is best, and how best to do your boobies. They know some shit.
also for the first few weeks, to prevent irritation and keep ‘em clean in my bra (and keep the bra clean while it healed and such), I cut a maxi pad in half and stuck it in the front of my bra.
Also, for at least a year or two after I got them done, they would occasionally ‘ooze’ a clear/white fluid and get crusty, which was cleaned off in the shower. Both my doctor and my piercer said that was ok.
p.s. For aesthetic and badass reasons, the second time around I went for a ten gauge piercing as opposed to the usual smaller twelve. That might account for the increased pain factor of mine.
i’ve had my nipples pierced for a few years and LOVE them. i got them done first when i was 15 (stupid!), took them out when they got irritated from someone yanking on them too hard, then got them redone when i was 18.
the first one wasn’t too painful, the second one was much more so. but neither was unbearable. i found my tongue piercing much more painful.
it hurt for the first two or three days, but not terribly.
a few weeks to play very, very gently, a few more months to play “averagely” (whatever that means)…
8 or 9 months, probably.
the piercings didn’t make them more sensitive, but they did provide new sensations.
no, though i’ve occasionally had trouble with them getting caught on things.
apparently it’s easier for bigger breasts to heal with barbells, so that’s what i went with.
I had mine done a while ago and it heightened my sensations and awareness of my nipples. I took them out while in school, but have decided to get them done again with Wendy.
After removing the piercings my nipples remained extremely s sensitive even until today.
Pain wise, it hurst like a mofo, but in a good way. The worst part is when someone wants to hug you.
I had my septum, tongue, bellybutton, eyebrow, nipples and 4 in my ears – nipples were the worst pain, but worth every price.
If you are heading to NYC, you, Wendy and I can go together.
M.
I’ve had both of mine done, one at a time, a year apart.
The first time I came close to passing out from the pain (have had multiple ear piercings with no issues). The second time, almost a year later was fine. I sat on the table, she did it, I stood up, walked out, paid and left. No dizziness nothing – yes it hurt, but it wasn’t a big deal. (not as bad as tearing a tendon in your leg, but comparable to stoving your big toe or hitting your elbow on something)
They took a couple weeks for the initial pain to fade. With the first piercing, I had to have an endometrial ablation done a week after and they gave me percoset, which I took for the piercing pain instead of the other (lol).
They weeped for months and took about 6-12 months to fully heal.
I *lost* one of my rings, misbehaving at a con back in February, and 14 hours later, when I got home it had closed enough that I couldn’t put a barbell through it. It had been over a year since it was pierced. So, nipple piercings heal VERY quickly if you lose your ring/barbell, may be wise to keep spares.
Play – took about a month before I could bear for any touching, gentle or not. The second time around it was 2-3 weeks. Then it was only gentle touching.
You’ll want to avoid rough play for healing purposes. If you have piercings, you already know about care.
Soon as I have money laying around (sighs, cause that never happens) I’m getting the left redone. It makes me sad that it’s no longer pierced.
