Interesting Queer and Kink Social Sites

So, there are lots and lots and lots of social networks out there.  And lots of queer sites. And apparently a lot of kink ones too.

Because I haven’t really mentioned any of the them on here, I thought I post about a few, in case any of you love newly-come out people (queer and kinky…and both for that matter) who keep writing me such wonderful and sweet letters might be looking for a place to look for other people.  That was a run on sentence like woah-fuck. My deepest apologies, but it’s late, and I’m not going back to fix it.

One of the ones that has been around a while is OurChart.com.  It’s personals, journals, blogging, events, all sorts of interesting things.  I’ve never met anyone from there in real life, but Diana Cage (On Our Backs and Girl Meets Girl) writes for them, so they’re pretty interesting.  And I’ve gotten some good advice about the dyke scene from some women I’ve met on there. Definitely worth checking out. Plus, they are a sponsor of Dinah Shore, which makes them awesome in my book (anyone wanna take me to Dinah Shore this year?  I will cook, look cute, and provide sex toys and awkwardness for your entertainment).

A cool dyke blogging site is TheLesbianLifestyle.com – I actually write for their advice panel. Now, I have some beef with the site’s name…I mean, I don’t believe there is really such thing as the “lesbian lifestyle” or the “gay agenda” anymore than I believe in a “heterosexual lifestyle” or the “straight agenda.”  I also think (and we’ve all heard me talk about this) that the word lesbian can be constraining and exclusive at times. However, there are tons and tons of bloggers who write for this site – great way to “meet” new people, get new ideas, catch up on queer news, etc.

There is a new queer site out there called DigiRomp, and its slogan is “Where all the hot girls come.” Women talked about their sexual stories and experiences, and there is also a chat area, and a photo area. I haven’t taken as much time to explore it as I would like to yet, but it seems like it’s a dykeadelic cross between adult friend finder and literotica.  As it is often hard to find other queer women on those two sites, I think this concept is pretty cool, and I’m looking forward to checking it out.

For those of you on Facebook, there is a cool application called “SGO” (my guess? sex, gender, orientation), and it lets you go way beyond the stupid “looking for: Men? Women?” options. In this application, you can provide orientation, gender, presentation, kinsey scale, pronouns, who you are and are not out to, etc.  It’s pretty amazing. I’ve had it on mine for more than a year, and love it.

If you’re on myspace, and hate their gender and orientation options, check out Queering the Binary.  They have some cool code in one of their older blogs that lets you manipulate that one box, so you can fill in the blanks for orientation, sign, drinking, etc.  If you don’t want to go that far, they’re trying to get people to put their “hometown” as “queer.”  They’re working super hard to get social networking sites to provide more gender options to their users…which is freaking awesome.

Kinkwise, everyone in my circle loves, uses and talks about FetLife.com, which is kind of like a kinky and less annoying MySpace. They have profiles and forums, but no silly applications, and hardly any ads, which I love.  I’m on there as Essin’ Em – if you join, drop my a line, tell me you read my blog, and friend me :)

Another kink networking site that I have not been having so much luck on, but some people swear by, is CollarMe.com.  It’s an older site, and I personally thing the organization is a bit messy (and it’s like myspace in that I have tons of creepy guys messaging me), but there are a ton of people on there, if nothing else, so it should increase your odds a little.

Well, I hope this has helped a bit, and has given you an idea of some new places to check out, find friends, read up, etc. And you can always look at other blogs/sites on my blogroll and links pages – they’re at the top of the page :)

That’s it for today.

Good blog…I always enjoy it! Another good social networking site to check out is http://www.downelink.com
It’s a very good place to meet people all across the gender, age, race, and ethnicity spectrum in the U.S. and abroad.
