Medusa HNT
I know many of you may be wondering what I decided to be for halloween (unless you follow me on twitter, and then you already knew!). During the day, I was working, so I had to find an outfit to wear that wasn’t too scandalous, yet also covered up ALL of the tattoos on my back. That was hard- I threw together an 80′s goth girl outfit – lots of black, tulle, sparkles, bracelets, heavy dark eye make-up, crocheted fishnets; you know the deal.
But at night was the piece de resistance. I usually start planning for halloween in March – I was a little behind this year, what with finishing my Master’s, moving, health issues, my grandmother dying, etc. However, I started in the end of July, and I decided on Medusa, because she’s freaking awesome, and oh yea, PS, have you SEEN my hair? Perfect Medusa hair.
I got all of these cool snakes, snake jewellry, etc when I was in the Springs in August, but after my car accident, I seem unable to find ANY of it, so I had to go to the dollar store and invest in a few dozen snakes. I didn’t get a chance to make the sparkly cloak that I wanted, but I did get some theatrical make up and put this together on the fly in about 15 minutes (without a practice run, hence it not looking better).
My hair required a good amount of bobby pins…and approximately 22 small snakes. It looked like this from behind:
Not the MOST amazing costume, but keep in mind I did it all myself, on a small budget (dress was a $99 bridesmaid dress that I wore in a wedding back in 2005, and in a play in 2006. Haven’t touch it since then, so I cut it up, and got more use out of it…because really, who wears a hunter green dress on a regular basis?), in about 30 minutes (because I worked on halloween), by myself (because when F got here, I had to shred her dress, and help her with make-up and fangs).
I always wonder what her life was like. I mean, was it like Midas, where she *couldn’t* look at someone without turning them into stone, or could she turn it on and off? Because if it was the second option, and you could decide who to turn, I’d love that. I would ston-ify all the idiotic, hateful, phobic people I’d meet (and every guy that tells me I’m queer only because I haven’t slept with him yet), and then be fine with everyone else. But if she couldn’t turn it off, and anyone she looked at turned to stone, think about how lonely that life would be? It would be very sad…imagine never being able to make eye contact with ANYONE without turing them to stone. I feel kind of sorry for her.
Anyways, nerdy mythological rant and questions over. Here is my halloween costumer – poof! What was everyone else? I want pictures!
Happy late halloween, and Happy Nekkid Thursday!

I wonder about Medusa sometimes too. But then I wonder about Greek myths a lot. That’s just how I am…
