It’s refreshing to hear someone be so candid about the real challenges of practicing safer sex, including the occasional slips, but ultimately the importance of it. There’s a lot of safe sex messages that stress the importance but not the sometimes awkward, less pleasant reality. Black gloves make it sexier, of course . . . Happy HNT!

Jerry – Great thoughts. You’re right…even sex-positive people can get caught up in this “STIs are evil” thought process…thank you for point that out.

I highly recommend Sex Writing 2009 – there is an easy on online dating among people who have one or more STIs – very interesting!

I wish I knew 20years ago the things I do now, I was not a safe sex person and I took a lot of unnecessary risks. I was lucky(testing negative) and have now been w/My knight for over 12 years(added bonus he is fixed). Great post and important message!

Mmmm….do like those gloves and could not agree more with you about how we generally make compromises about what level of risk we are willing to take….but please give me a moment to get up on one of my favorite soap box’s.

You wrote “100% clean “. I really really really (did I say REALLY) hate the term “clean” when used in reference to STD/STI/etc…To me this implies that if someone does have some form of STI that they are “dirty”! For me (not sure about others) this is really really creepy and falls right into our societies stereotypical vision of sex rather than a sex positive attitude which is one of the things I love about you! I prefer terms like “all tests were 100 percent negative” or some other words that doesn’t put us into the “clean/dirty” model.
