Book Review: Family Jewels
This review may surprise you, especially those of you who come here pretty much for my reviews of sex toys. What am I reviewing? Family Jewels — A Guide to Male Genital Play and Torment.
Why am I reviewing this? Well, first of all, I love books. And secondly, I own a shit ton of books. I don’t own this one. And thirdly, I don’t know anything about male genital play. Nothing. Well, I do know a few basic tenants; don’t pop the testicles, don’t break the penis, don’t impede future functioning of the penis. That’s it. Ergo, I wanted to check out this book.
Like many of the single subject focused kink books (A Hand in the Bush, Flogging, Play Piercing, etc), Family Jewels is published by Greenery Press, with a great introduction written by Midori. It’s got a good first few chapters that talk about the idea behind CBT (cock and ball torture), how to talk to your partner(s) about being into this, generic safety, basic male genital anatomy, etc. I really am glad that they included both the safety section (always important in any kink book), as well as the pictures/diagram, and body parts segment, because so few people know the ins and out of genital anatomy (even if they are the owners of the same parts). Very good to have.
Further sections go into talking about which type of toys you can make/find/buy in order to practice CBT…from parachutes to clothespins, your own hand to ball stretchers, they give good details about each of the items, where to get them, and some tips as to how to use them.
I’m not quite sure how useful all of this information is, as I don’t have any XY male partners, making it hard to try these things out on anyone. However, I’m glad to have this book, chock full of info, in case a penis ever presents itself.
As with many kink books, there is a good list of resources at the end of the book, perfect for anyone looking to get more involved into CBT play. Resources are so important and great to have, so I appreciate them having that in this book.
If nothing else, it was a look into the world of CBT, male genital torture, and so much more. Great book for newbies, but if you’re already well-versed in the art of genital torment, this might be a little bit too back to the basics for ya.

“Well, I do know a few basic tenants; don’t pop the testicles, don’t break the penis, don’t impede future functioning of the penis.”
This cracked me up. It was so hilarious and at the same time just the way I felt about my first experiences with boys, where I was made even more vervous because I had only only one wide-eyed rule to go by: “Don’t hurt the penis!”

I can’t believe none of your XY readers didn’t step up to volunteer!
