Sexuality Happens

My Awkward Introduction to Genderfork

I had been offered half of my bus fare to bus it up to Philly from DC on Saturday night after the conference, as a friend of mine tried to facilitate my attendance at Philly’s monthly queer play party “Hanky Code.” In counter-negotiation, Furry Girl, who was rooming with me, offered to try to set up my oh so desired queer gang bang for Saturday night at the conference hotel to entice me to stay in DC.  As much as I wanted to go to Hanky Code, I don’t have any spare change, and adding a cab to the bus costs, plus an entry fee, was just too much. Plus, how does one say no to a queer gang bang.

However, as Friday night progressed, the bang was looking less and less likely.  At one point, I said to Furry Girl “I just don’t know if there are enough queer identified people at this conference to make this happen.”  She asked me wasn’t Sarah Dopp queer enough for my tastes?  I had no idea who this “Sarah Dopp” was, and said so.  She told me she was really hot, and queer, and probably very much my type. And then the conversation moved on.

Later that night, I snuck into the porn and brownies celebration in the Sex 2.0 suite to yoink a vegan cupcake. As I bent over the delicious treats in front of me, my eyes caught a name tag. “Sarah Dopp.” I looked up.  She WAS hot. Very much so.

“Wow…you really ARE hot!” I said, forgetting all the social niceties about possibly introducing myself or anything like that. But then again, that’s also pretty much how I roll.

“Um…what?”

“You’re really hot. Hot, attractive, yes, that.”

“Oh. I thought you were telling me that you thought I was really high.” Which she wasn’t. And also wasn’t what I said.

Yeah. Awkward. But after 24 hours of dealing with it, I’m embracing this as awkwardness. It’s less worse than the “my anus is bleeding!” moment, or ending up in the ER after miniature golfing on a second date.  And I explained the whole gang bang conversation, and then brought her up to meet the brilliant Audacia Ray.  Where we then looked at pickled baby pictures from the Walter Reed Medical Museum.

But here’s the thing.  Sarah Dopp, in addition to being really attractive, is also very smart.  And activist-y.  In fact, she has her own fancy site (www.DoppJuice.com).

Moreover, she also is the brains behind Genderfork.  What, you may ask, IS Genderfork? In her own words from the site;

Genderfork.com is a blog that explores androgyny and gender variance — that playful intersection between “male” and “female” that seems to confuse and intrigue us.

There are more and more sites popping up exploring things like this (such as Queer Eye Candy, the brain child of Sinclair Sexsmith), but this one is not the same as anything I’ve seen out there. And as someone who is asked time and time again to explain the concept of “genderqueer” to a large variety of people, I’m thinking this site is going to be a great resource for me, and others in the world of the interwebs.

Sarah has created a site with a combo of pictures, quotations and other writings, and profiles of and by people who are genderqueer/fuckers/forkers of sorts. It’s incredibly interesting to read others thoughts, quotes and stories on this, and to enjoy the pictures and videos on the site.

You should definitely check out Genderfork.com. I just want to know why no one (all you forkers, queers, pervs, etc) told me about this site, and why I had to find out about it in such a spectacularly awkward (and 100% me) kind of way.

    I’m actually really surprised that you had never heard of Sarah or Genderfork! I love the site and have contributed to it a couple times. If I had met you, Audacia, and Sarah all at once I probably would have had an orgasm of excitement on the spot! It’s like epic blogger awesomeness!

    Glad you finally found the site, though.
