"Breeders" is also a term that the radically (and I might add obnoxiously) Child-free use to refer to parents (or people who want to be parents). As a straight, child-free-by-choice woman who loves children I abhore the term. It's always used contemptuously - usually in conjunction with calling the children of "Breeders" things like "sprog" or some other derogatory name.

I just don't understand why people can't live and let live. If you don't want kids, don't have them. If you do wnat kids have them. If you want to be queer, straight, gay, kinky, bi, poly, femme, whatever .. just BE that. And quit trying to put down others who aren't like you.

*whew* Rant over.

The term breeders is good for one thing, it comes in handy when trying to decide to straight people who haven't dealt with discrimination what its like to be called queer derogatory names.

Funny thing, as a mostly straight woman who doesn't want kids... I never identified the term "breeder" with myself. But maybe I just wasn't present when it was directed towards me. lol Any word that forces people into a generic category is a bad thing. Duh. Nobody should be stereotyped, apparent majority, minority, or whatever. I always *hope* for more understanding. :-\

I think your shocking title worked. I clicked on it out of interest.

The term, "Breeder" never really bothered me. When I think of breeders I actually think of people that breed animals, i.e. farmers, dog breeders, horse breeders, etc. I don't really associate it with people -- maybe that's because I'm (mostly) straight?

The use of "cracker" has a historical significance which has been used by African-Americans since the slave days, E.G. the slave master "cracking" the whip.

I wouldn't say it's comparable to "breeder." I get what you're saying tho.

And if you really hate breeders, you'll probably really hate my blog entry on breed sex:

How odd, I had no idea! I've always heard this used to refer to people who actually do procreate, mostly in child free communities.

It's nastier than "cracker" imo; it gets used not just as a (stupid, as you note) contemptuous catchall for straight people by queer folk but by the nastier "childfree" folk, often along with such other charming terms as "cows" and "crotchdroppings." It is hard to ignore the strong connotations of misogyny as well as classism and, of course, childhate (were these people created in a test tube?)
