Sex Toy Review: Aloe Cadabra
I got to try out a new lube, one that is quite different than any one I’ve tried before.
Why? Because rather than being water-based or silicone-based, this one is called Aloe Cadabra, and is shockingly, aloe based.
What is the schtick with this lube? This is what their press release had to say:
According to a Newsweek article, 15 to 20 percent of couples are estimated to be living in a nearly sexless marriage, reporting they engage in sexual activity less than 10 times a year1. To deter couples from becoming a statistic and to help re-ignite their passionate spark in a healthy and magical way, Seven Oaks Farms has launched Aloe Cadabra®, the first and only all natural, plant-based, intimate moisturizer made with than 97 percent organic aloe vera.
Most petroleum derived solutions on the market today contain environmentally unfriendly chemicals, such as propylene glycol, which is used industrially to make anti-freeze; synthetic preservatives such as parabens2, which can mimic estrogen and play a role in the development of breast cancer; glycerin, a sugar which can feed bacteria and lead to yeast infections; and sodium hydroxide, a skin irritant.
Since 60 percent of what is applied to skin can be absorbed into the body3, choosing the right intimate moisturizer is an important decision. When applying anything to areas of the body with semi-permeable tissue, such as the mouth, vaginal, and anal areas, any harmful ingredients are absorbed directly into the body.
Rinaldo and Lalla Brutoco, owners of the manufacturer Seven Oaks Farms, a family-owned, 12.5-acre sustainable, certified-organic ranch in California’s Ojai Valley, were looking to re-ignite their own spark, and were disappointed that most solutions contained these skin irritating and environmentally unfriendly chemicals.
“Personal lubricants should facilitate pleasure without harming your body,” says Brutoco. “We’ve actually cultivated aloe vera for years, and just recently expanded its use to develop Aloe Cadabra®. It has worked so well for us that my wife wanted to share this exciting discovery with others. Our experience together has been so great, I enthusiastically agreed.”
Because Aloe Cadabra ® contains no harsh chemicals, it ensures a soothing and pleasurable intimate moisturizing experience. It is pH balanced to a woman’s body and uses the natural, healing power of aloe to help aid the body’s natural healing process, enhance comfort, and create a pleasing experience. It does not exacerbate other gynecological challenges, such as yeast and bladder infections, brought on by menopause, diet, medications, and host of other physiological and emotional conditions and doesn’t suffer from the drawbacks of chemical lubricants.
“My wife and I believe that others would prefer to use a cleaner, healthier, and all natural lubricant to rekindle their passion. That’s why we developed Aloe Cadabra®,” says Brutoco. “It’s a healthy, magical gel that’s essential for sexual wellness. You and your partner will love the pleasurable experience. It’s hard to imagine sharing deep levels of intimacy without aloe.”
This is what I think of it. It’s very different. It’s way thicker than any other lube I’ve ever tired, but it doesn’t last as long.
I tried both the original and the French Lavender. I LOVED the Lavender — it was really nice and relaxingly scented. The original has barely any scent at all. I found them both good for masturbation, but they tended to dry out too fast when there was more friction.
However, if you have a lot of allergies to ingredients in lubes, this might be the one for you. It’s mostly organic, and has no glycerin, which is what causes most allergic reactions and yeast infections.
Also, I like the cute little purple satin bag it comes in. But that’s just my femme-y side.
I don’t know if this is the right lube for me, but I think it’s a great concept, and worth trying out. I might actually hold onto mine for if I get sunburned…cause you know I will, and that’s what I’m used to using aloe for.
