Sexuality Happens

Come out, Come out

hiding

I do this about once a year…

I oh so kindly and sweetly and patiently and all of that, ask my lurkers to come out at say hi. Inspired 3 years ago by Miss Avarice, it’s been a great way to meet someone of the people who read my blog, and rarely, if ever, comment or speak up.

Soooooo…

WHO ARE YOU?

I mean, you see me. All sorts of parts of me; my happy, my sad, my turmoil, my boobies, and so on. I never see you!  You don’t have to put your real name there, but SOMETHING would be nice.

If you’d be so kind, would you mind answering me a few questions?

What name do you go by on the magical interwebs?

What part of the world do you call come? (be as general as you want)

What are some of your identities?

What’s your favorite thing about the site?

What changes would you like to see?

Favorite post, if you have one?

Where are you on the web? Twitter/Fetlife/Blog/etc?

This is not just for the lurkers! Even if you’ve been reading and/or commenting for years, I’d love to hear a little more about you! And if you just started reading today, I’d STILL love to hear about you. So please, for me, just for today, shed your black cloak and come forth! And all that jazz.

Thanks!

-Essin’ Em

I’ve only been following the site for a couple of weeks, my friend Anne recommended it to me. I like what I’ve read so far.

  6. Randi November 3rd, 2009 8:17 am

    I are Randi :).

I’m a 30 year old mom of two who comes to this site because I love reading about lives that are so vastly different from mine. It is intriguing and opens up my mind.

And I live in the frozen NorthEast!

  7. Ashley November 3rd, 2009 8:27 am

What name do you go by on the magical interwebs?
Kalisis or Kalisisrising – I coined the name after I left my husband and my life blew up and a dear friend made me a painting called Warrior Goddess Within and I realized I *did* feel like a goddess in control of my own life and I was rising from the ashes to build something new and wonderful.

What part of the world do you call home? (be as general as you want)
For now, New York. I’m originally from Wyoming though. I am equally content in both places.

What’s your favorite thing about the site?
You, of course, Em! ;) In all seriousness, I love your openness and honesty. I have a blog and can’t seem to find a theme that I want to stick with and I like seeing how other people can make some cohesiveness out of the randomness of daily life.

Where are you on the web? Twitter/Fetlife/Blog/etc?

I’m on twitter, as Kalisis and fetlife as kalirising, although I just joined and feel really shy and out of my element there.

  8. Safo Garcia November 3rd, 2009 9:45 am

I have commented a couple of times–usually very long posts. I read several blogs, but I’m just not a regular commenter on any of them. It doesn’t come naturally to me. Maybe because I feel like my generation just barely skipped the whole online presence thing. I mean, I had AOL as a teenager, but myspace and facebook are beyond me. I’m in my early thirties. I’m a queer and kinky woman from the Northeast, and I really enjoy reading about your life. My favorite posts are probably the HNT pictures. I also really appreciated the LBD post. The fact that you usually post everyday is a plus. I don’t twitter or blog myself.

  9. Kachwa November 3rd, 2009 10:44 am

I rarely comment, but since you asked so nicely, I thought I’d come out of hiding. Your blog always keeps me interested, whether it’s topics for discussion, or information or your personal life. Where I live is very conservative and ‘sex’ is a dirty word. So I’ve had to educate myself. I have learned so much from bloggers and I am very grateful. I’ve learnt so much about myself, and changed the way I see things. You’ve opened my eyes.

  10. Courtney November 3rd, 2009 11:05 am

*Peeks head from behind the internet curtain* Courtney here. I hail from Dallas, though am NOT a Texan. I enjoy reading posts that offer alternative sex education and embrace the kinkier side of sexuality and identity. I’m 25 and identify as bi. I’m also a non-commenter. *Lurks once more*

  11. Lena November 3rd, 2009 11:12 am

I’m from Germany. I check your blog almost every day, and I enjoy the personal bits, the funny situations and your thoughts on things. Especially the thoughts on things. I really like thoughts :).

I’m not really sure about the identities thing. I feel that I am many things, but not all of these things are part of my identity. Somehow I don’t think my identity is comprised of all the statements I consider true about myself, but merely of a subset thereof, and I am unsure which subset exactly. I’m a female born in a female body. I’m attracted to all kinds of people. I like to play around with bdsmy things. I am a thinky person rather than a feely person. I’m inquisitve. I love challenges. I love intensity. I’m an agnostic. I’m poly. I’m mostly sex-positve and working on eliminating the remaining sex-negativity. I’m a family person.

  12. evey/melinda November 3rd, 2009 11:17 am

I am evey! Your fantastic moose from the mile high city. I identify as a little girl and a voyeur. I run my own blog, Voyeur on Display, as well as a profile on fetlife (Evey).

    *mush*

  13. JFCfanatic November 3rd, 2009 11:36 am

Hi there! I love your blog because it’s just so interesting. I love your deadpan approach to blogging and the fact that you aren’t afraid to share yourself with the strangers of the world. I especially love it when you review toys. I am a married bisexual, Jewish, white woman from Orange County, CA. Online, I usually go by JFCFanatic.

I twit and blog under the same username. :)

Thanks for all you do! Keep it up! :)

  14. HouseWench November 3rd, 2009 11:59 am

We live in Minnesota, but home is wherever we’re happy. (Strangely enough, his hometown can’t be called ‘home’ according to our rules).

My identities vary: I’m a priestess. A pro-domme sometimes. A sugar baby in summer. A pet to my Master. A domestic goddess. A multiphobe. A wisewoman in disguise, sometimes.

And YOU’RE my favourite thing about the site. For what would it be, without Essin’ Em? (M?) I love the site as it is. I guess the only thing I’d change would be your health if I could.

I don’t think I’ve been reading long enough to find my favourite post yet.

You can find me on Twitter, my blog, TheSixtyOne(can I send you an invite if you’re interested? xD), and I’m Psylosight on Tumblr, running both Psylo Sight and With Such a Love, You Know You Should Be Glad.

  15. Kimberly November 3rd, 2009 12:15 pm

Well, I read your blog rather faithfully. I really enjoy the posts about your relationships. I sometimes get thrown off by the use of letters to represent partners rather than names, but I get wanting to preserve some semblance of anonymity for them. The HNTs are always a nice, too. I like your photographs and reading your thoughts and rants about things. Sometimes I agree with you, other times not so much, but either way I enjoy reading. I think what I get most from your blog is a feeling that you’re really putting yourself out there for the entire world (or at least the interwebs) to see, and I think that’s very brave. I admire the confidence you exude. It seems like if I met you out and about in life, we’d have plenty to talk about. (Not trying to sound like a fangirl, just being honest).

I had a livejournal, which I kept to chronicle my feelings through a difficult relationship/breakup. I should probably deactivate it now because, well, I’d hate for my ex to come across it, and I do not like re-reading and re-living unfortunate situations.

I’m 25, female, Black, a 3rd year law student, a lapsed Christian trying to figure out what I truly believe; a Texan, and queer.

  16. Moriquendu November 3rd, 2009 3:00 pm

Hi! I’m a self-identified lurker of the interwebz, genderqueer 20-yr-old trannyboy from new york (somewhere in the state, not the city) reading queer sex blogs til I find someone who accepts me to start my own shenanigans with. I need to find a new name for the internet because the person I was free to be online finally became the person I’m free to be in real life ^^. I just like reading about other people’s experiences. I can tell myself I’m not wasting time online if I’m doing that (vs playing games).

  17. Jenny November 3rd, 2009 6:33 pm

Hey there! I just started reading your blog a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it! I absolutely love how you’re so willing to touch upon anything and everything! As a small-town girl in deep east Texas (SAVE ME!) it’s wonderful to see that there are so many options out there and people who think similar to myself.

I just started coming into my femme identity about a year and a half ago, even though I’ve been an out lesbian for 12 years. Honestly, between reading your blog and then your posts over on The Femme’s Guide, I really feel like I’ve discovered a lot more about myself in the few weeks I’ve been reading. It’s SO nice to know that there are other femmes out there who aren’t totally glam/lipstick/whatever and who loathe pink much like myself!

Anyways, I find your confidence and openness inspiring! Thank you for being you!

  18. mercury November 3rd, 2009 8:19 pm

If you’d be so kind, would you mind answering me a few questions? Yes. :D

What name do you go by on the magical interwebs? Mercury, usually.

What part of the world do you call come? (be as general as you want) Caaaaaaanadaaaaaaa. I go to school in the maritimes. Art!

What are some of your identities? I’m um. A somewhat kinky bisexual 18 year old who likes to learn things using the intarwubs. Also I enjoy arty kinds of things, and making stuff up.

What’s your favorite thing about the site? That everything is very frank and rather to the point.

What changes would you like to see? I like the site the way it is. :D

Favorite post, if you have one? No favourites! It is all good.

Where are you on the web? Twitter/Fetlife/Blog/etc? noooooooooooooowheeeeeeeeeeeere that’s a lie i’m mostly at kitti-loki.deviantart.com. Art!

  19. dayglow November 3rd, 2009 8:34 pm

I’ll come out as a lurker! I have a couple of internet names depending on where I happen to be. I am always very private on the internet and never share identifiable information. Well, I do have a facebook page, but that’s a completely separate thing. I post on a couple of discussion forums and follow a few favorite blogs, but I don’t do any blogging, etc. myself. I think Twitter is annoying. I am a 33 year old woman from Virginia. I am a nurse, a dog owner, submissive, unconventional, thoughtful, introverted, and compassionate to a fault. Some blogs just really click with me, and yours is one of them. I’ve only been reading since around the time you first met Q, so I have really enjoyed reading about how your relationship has progressed. I like how into sex you are and how you’re willing to put yourself out there and open up to the world on your blog. I like your honesty. I can’t really think of any major changes I would like to see except maybe hearing and seeing more of Q, but I totally respect her comfort level with that. I’m looking forward to hearing about your new experiences in Phoenix!

  20. MD November 3rd, 2009 10:10 pm

In the world of the internet I go by MD or MOD. I’m 23, I enjoy reading about sexuality, gender and all that comes with it. I just finished graduate school and have decided to go to law school. The photography here is amazing. I’m exceptionally complicated when it comes to gender, always have been. I’ve contributed to a few blogs but I don’t keep track of most of it. I’m also a Texan (as is the person who commented above me!)

  21. Angel deSanguine November 3rd, 2009 10:15 pm

Hey hey! I have posted a comment or two, but that’s about it… I’m more of a reader/ ponderer than a commenter. :) I blog, though not as regularly as some, over at DirtySexyThoughts.wordpress.com.. I’m also on Twitter, which I rarely use and have a Fetlife account that I think I may have logged into one whopping time in the past six months or so. Hmmm… Miami is my hometown, though now I’m lost in the bible belt.

Identities… I am a butchy, bitchy, sassy, quirky, kinky, somewhat hot-headed bi switch female with Dominant tendencies. I can cook and bake like a fiend, do construction work and am a bit of a grease monkey. Fuck and Cunt are quite possibly the two best words in the English language. I hate purple sex toys, bigots, text speak and domestic beer.

I enjoy your frankness and intelligent writing. If you are having a fucking fabulous day, you say it. If your day is just shitastic, well dammit, that goes out there too. Life is not all lollipops and rainbows, nor is it all crap and I appreciate the balance between the two.

  22. Curvaceous Dee November 3rd, 2009 11:35 pm

I am Dee the Curvaceous, writing all the way over here in New Zealand. I choose quite a few labels, not least: fat, kinky, polyamorous, pansexual, kiwi, cis-female and migraneur.

I always find your story, your life, your experiences, interesting. I appreciate that you are a not-small, disabled, queer woman who I love to interact with!

Favourite post is a long-time favourite: Being Out vs Being Out There

I’m all over my blog, twitter, and FetLife – links for the latter two are at the former.

    xx Dee

  23. Lola Wants November 4th, 2009 8:23 pm

    Hi there!

What name do you go by on the magical interwebs?
I have a few “noms de Internet”, but lately I’ve been going by Lola. We’ll stick with that for a while. Seems to fit.

What part of the world do you call come? (be as general as you want)
    NYC

What are some of your identities?
I’m still discovering all that I am, but at this moment I’m a bisexual wife, mother and slut, wending her way through a relatively new open marriage.

What’s your favorite thing about the site?
You’ve got a great “voice”, and you’re very relatable.

What changes would you like to see?
    nada!

Favorite post, if you have one?
Things I’ve Discovered I Like, among others, as I’m very much in discovery phase myself!

Where are you on the web? Twitter/Fetlife/Blog/etc?
I tweet as @LoLoLolaWants, and I’m Glaurious on FetLife. I don’t have a blog…yet. But I do have a lot to say and sort through. Just can’t decide if my inspiration trumps my laziness!

  24. ALAH November 5th, 2009 12:23 am

    Hi hun!
I have been following u for about 6 months now. I found u on twitter thru a couple of other sex toys reviewers i follow. I love hearing about ur life, Ur SEX life, Q, and ur reviews of porn and sex toys. I just find what u say so entertaining and at many times very insiteful. But I know ur queer and I am a het Male so i will just injoy the show from here. So for ur knowlege I live in Northern Minnesota, my real name is Alex, I am married and have a 3 yr old son and this is what I do on teh interwebs.

  25. annajcook November 5th, 2009 8:00 pm

    Hi!

I’ve had your query tagged in GoogleReader for a few days now, and have finally found a minute to respond . . .

I found your blog via one of my other many feminist RSS feeds (I’ve forgotten where now) and it’s been awesome reading along in GoogleReader. I don’t comment much on any blogs right now because other parts of my life take up too much time — but I really enjoy reading what you have to say.

I’m a graduate student in history and library science at a small college in Boston and I work as a library assistant at the Massachusetts Historical Society. My scholarly interests are in the history of education, history of feminist activism, history of sexuality and gender, and the intersection of all of these things with community, religion, politics, and radical social change (whew!). I really hope to build a post-grad-school career as a librarian/archivist providing reference information for people working in these fields — as well as continue to do my own research in these areas. Blogs like this are often where I find some of the best resources on sexuality out there — so keep blogging!

    ~Anna

  26. Sara November 7th, 2009 12:04 am

    Hi there!
I’m Sara. I’m currently living in the US, though I’ve lived all over the world. My major identities are still secrets here on this part of the intarweb, but I am comfortable revealing that I am bisexual, kinky, and nerdy. I was initially attracted to the site for your reviews, but it earned repeat visits because your pictures make it seem more personal. I’m still a little new, so I’m not sure what I like most or least yet.

    You can find me at:

  27. Kel November 7th, 2009 4:20 pm

Hey, I’m Kel. I’m a queer, 24-year-old girl from Oregon. Found your blog several years ago and have been cheerfully lurking every since. I’m a little bit genderqueer, not quite butch but definitely not femme. I have a voyeuristic interest in kink. I liked the sexual manifesto best, I guess, but I also love just hearing about how things are going. And I love HNT. Because I think you are stunning. And I love hearing your views about disability, this being a particular area of interest of mine.

Best wishes on your move. That can be a really stressful experience and I hope it brings you and Q closer together.

  28. alphafemme November 17th, 2009 10:12 pm

I’ve been meaning to comment on this post for weeks but access to this site is blocked at work and that’s mostly where I do my blogging and blog-reading, so that’s my excuse for not poking my head up until now.

I’m alphafemme. I’m, well, femme… sex-positive, trying to figure out whether kinky as an identity fits me or not. I’m from San Francisco, and I’m definitely a nerd, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it from looking at me. Monogamous, queer. All that jazz. In my twenties.

The first post that had me hooked here was the one on the five ways of loving. I think my favorites in general are the relationshipy ones, or the ones that are sort of theoretical/abstract/speculative (e.g. the one you just did on able-bodied privilege). I like being provoked to think.

I blog about my life and sex, pretty much through the lens of a young queer femme identity. It’s at alphafemme.wordpress.com. And I’m on twitter too at http://www.twitter.com/alphafemme, but I haven’t quite yet figured out what to do with twitter. So it sits there, mostly, with the occasional little chirp.

Thanks for blogging! It’s definitely broadened my horizon. Hope your pain subsides soon.

    Cheers,
    alphafemme
